Trash Pack
Anya spent her Christmas money on these "rubbish". They're called Trash Pack if you have been out of the loop. It is apparently the latest craze at school, with some kids using them as rubber. She lines them up every morning (like they are treasures). They do seem cute up close.
Oh well, I did have Garbage Pail Kids when I was her age. And I didn't thought they were creepy then.
So what else is cool at school nowadays?

Must see: The Help
I have been gradually reading The Help while waiting inside the car for the school dismissal. I’ve seen good reviews about the novel so I sought it out. It saved me from losing my mind that time Anya & I had to wait at the ER for a whole day.
It was turned into a movie following its success at the bookshops. And is now available to rent or buy in DVD or Blu-ray. I was glad to receive a copy to review as I was keen on seeing it as soon as I finished the book. And I am happy to say that the adaptation was satisfactory. The running time may be too long for some but it was well-crafted nonetheless. And only those who are in an emotional coma will not reach out for a tissue at least once.
The Help is a heartfelt story about how Skeeter (played by Emma Stone) began writing about the lives of the African-Americans during the 1960s. These women mostly worked as maids for the affluent and white families. Yes, it another film that talks about racial equality. But don’t be turned off by the weight of the issue. Because the film remains entertaining. There are comic relief, mostly provided by the character of Minny, one of the maids who has quite a revenge story to tell.
The Help is a melodrama so expect it to appeal to your emotion and conscience. It is rather remarkable how the discriminatory behaviors presented in this film still ring true to today. It actually made me feel a tad ashamed.
Because I did grew up with a help or two. (Live-in nannies & housekeeper is a norm where I grew up) And the story forced me to look back and admit that in some cases, I have offended the maids without realizing it. Separate toilets, separate dining area. I am guilty. (And I know others who are too!) That is why I highly recommend this movie. In hopes that people come to acknowledge their erroneous ways and treat their maids better. ASAP.
Anyway, the cast and the acting were very effective rendering the film enjoyable to watch over wine and cheese. I suggest you find a quiet time to watch this. With your girlfriends or preferably on your me time. When you can freely cry your eyes out. And feel good later on.

The Help is heavily nominated this award season. Definitely a classic and is worth grabbing your own copy.
